The answer, live
The card above is today’s community verdict: a 0–100 score built from every vote cast since midnight UTC, blended with yesterday’s finalized score until enough people have weighed in. It is the same number that sits on the home page, minus the live needle.
If you are here because Claude just did something baffling, the fastest useful thing you can do is vote. One number, optional comment, done. Your vote nudges the score for everyone who searches this exact question after you, and the comments feed is where you find out whether it is just you.
How to read the score
High is good. The dial runs from clown to genius in five zones:
| Range | Verdict | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| 0–20 | Retarded | Actively making things worse. Screenshots in the feed. |
| 21–40 | Questionable | Needs adult supervision. Double-check everything. |
| 41–60 | Meh | Fine. Unremarkable. A Tuesday. |
| 61–80 | Smart | Doing what it says on the tin, and then some. |
| 81–100 | Genius | Suspiciously good. Enjoy it while it lasts. |
Why it does not swing wildly at 00:01 UTC. A fresh day starts with yesterday’s finalized score. Each new vote pulls the number toward today’s average, and once today has roughly as many votes as a typical recent day the average takes over completely. One angry vote at breakfast cannot tank the day; fifty can.
What the little numbers mean. avg is the raw mean of today’s votes before blending; vs yesterday is the change against the last finalized day. A low avg with a high score just means the day is young.
Before you blame the model: a 60-second checklist
- Check the official status page. status.claude.com lists claude.ai, the API, Claude Code and Cowork separately. An active incident explains a lot of “dumb” in about four seconds.
- Start a new conversation. Long chats degrade; Anthropic calls it context rot. If the fresh chat is sharp, the model was fine and the conversation was the problem. In Claude Code that is
/clear, or/compactif you need the history. - Look at the effort and model you are actually using. Defaults change. In April 2026 a default effort change made Claude Code feel dumber for weeks before Anthropic reverted it; the developer guide has the details and the
/effortfix. - Check your usage limits. A throttled session and a dumb model feel identical from the outside.
- Then vote. Especially if all four checks passed. That is exactly the data this site exists to collect.
Why the order matters
Both times Anthropic has published a postmortem about Claude feeling worse, the cause was a bug on their side, and both times the status page stayed green for weeks. The checklist rules out your side first so that when you do vote low, it means something.
Dumb today vs. dumber lately
“Is Claude dumb today?” and “Has Claude been getting dumber?” are different questions with different evidence. Today is the dial. Lately is the score history: one finalized verdict per UTC day, so a single bad afternoon shows up as a dip and a genuine regression shows up as a slope.
If the slope is what worries you, the nerfed guide walks through what Anthropic has actually admitted to, and why Claude seems dumb covers the nine documented reasons a model that did not change can still feel worse this week.
Questions people actually ask
Is this an official Anthropic metric?
No. It is a community barometer: anyone can vote once per UTC day on how Claude is behaving for them, and the number you see is the blend of those votes. Anthropic has nothing to do with it and would probably prefer the domain name did not exist.
How often does the score update?
Every vote moves it immediately on the home page. This page is regenerated at most once a minute, so the card above can be up to sixty seconds behind the live dial.
Which timezone is 'today'?
UTC. Every voting day starts and ends at 00:00 UTC; the countdown on the home page shows how long until the reset. If it is still Tuesday evening where you are but the site says Wednesday, that is why.
What counts as 'dumb'?
Whatever made you swear at your screen: forgetting instructions, confidently wrong answers, refusing something harmless, rewriting code that worked, stopping halfway. Votes are subjective by design; the crowd average is what makes them useful.
Can I vote more than once a day?
No. Signed-in voters can change their vote until midnight UTC; anonymous votes are final for the day, because they are tied only to a hashed browser fingerprint and IP. Sign in if you want to update your vote or leave a comment or a screenshot.
Is Claude dumber than ChatGPT today?
We do not measure ChatGPT, Gemini or anyone else, so we honestly cannot say. What we can tell you is whether Claude is having a worse day than usual, which is a different and more answerable question.

Your turn
So, is Claude dumb today?
One vote per person per UTC day. Your number moves the needle the moment it lands; the comment is optional but encouraged.
